Helping Children Explore and Cope with Emotions 

This workshop provided by the UFT, is for parents, grandparents, guardians and education activists.  Presenters from the New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center will explain how to help children in kindergarten through 5th grade regulate their emotions so they are better able to resolve conflicts and have lower levels of physiological stress.

DYCD (Department of Youth and Community Development) Town Hall

DYCD (Department of Youth and Community Development) will be hosting a series of virtual town halls entitled “We the YOUTH, You the People.” They will kick off the event discussing Structural Racism on August 19, 2020 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. One of the goals of the town hall series is to create a safe space for young people to harness their voice and power. The uncertainty of funding, current health pandemic, and civil unrest make it even more important that youth voice and agendas inform future funding priorities, programming and policies.

The school leadership team, comprised of an equal number of staff and caregivers, is responsible for providing ongoing evaluations of a school’s educational programs and their impact on student achievement. The SLT plays an important role in school-based decision-making and ensures the comprehensive education plan is achievable within the parameters of the annual school budget.

While the meeting is open to all PS 11 caregivers the SLT requests that all questions, concerns and names of potential attendees be sent to the SLT chairperson one week prior to the monthly meeting. Emails can be sent to SLT@ps11bk.org.

National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

Did you know that May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? An annual observance, National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is a time to highlight the importance of staying active through sports and other fitness activities. Celebrate this observance by promoting the importance of 60 minutes per day of physical activity for kids (and 30 minutes per day for adults) and providing opportunities to be physically active at school and at home. Book Bash

We will have wonderful children’s book authors and illustrators visiting our school to talk to the students on Tuesday, March 10 for our annual Book Bash, in collaboration with Greenlight Bookstore! You can pre-order copies of the featured books and have the books autographed by the authors. Pre-orders will be delivered to students on the day of the Book Bash. To order books, please fill out the PS11 online order form by following the link below or complete the paper form that will be distributed in your child's red folder. 

All book orders must be returned your child’s teacher by Thursday, February 13th

Are you researching summer day camps or sleepaway camps for your child? Then join us for our 6st Annual Summer Camp Fair which will be held THIS THURSDAY, March 5th  from 5:30pm- 7:30pm on the ground floor (hallway)

In one convenient setting, parents and children can meet a big host of camp directors/representatives in person and discover a wide variety of day camps and sleep-away camps.  Connect with some of the best summer and enrichment programs in Brooklyn.  Learn about new camps and classes that you haven't heard of before, from technology to sports, or find out what your favorites have in store for 2020.  Plan a summer of fun in one day!

Deadline for 5th Grade Yearbook Photo Submissions

Dear Fifth Grade Parents, All fifth grade students will receive a yearbook this spring. As PS 11 parents of both 8th graders and current younger students, we have been assisting the administration in preparing the yearbook for several years. We know that fifth grade is a busy time for parents and teachers. Our goal is to help streamline the process. Below is a summary of the information we are collecting.

STUDENT PHOTOS

Please email the following photos to the appropriate email addresses as written. Note: The school cannot be responsible for any print photos. All photos must be received by Friday February 28.  Acceptable file formats include JPEG, .JPG and .PNG.

Baby Photo: Send 1 baby photo labeled with your child’s last name-first name ex. Smith-John to this address as written: submit+baby11@edophotos.com 

Official Class Group Photos: If you have class photos (picture day) from past years, please label them with the grade-teacher name ex. Kindergarten-Son and email them to this address as written: submit+pastyears11@edophotos.com 

Candid Group Photo: Send 1 (optional) candid group photo of students taken in grades Pre-K to 4 to this full address as written: submit+pastyears11@edophotos.com Group photos will be selected with the goal of including as many diverse groups of students as possible to ensure that everyone is represented.

TRIP AND EVENT PHOTOS To share photos for 5th grade trips and events, please label them with the name of the event ex. Scholars Reception and email them by March 30 to this address as written: submit+trips11@edophotos.com 

STUDENT CONTRIBUTIONS The following will also be collected from students and more information will be provided by the teachers. Student Survey: Students will be given a survey to select a quote/favorite memory that will accompany their cap and gown photo. Artwork/Poetry: Students will have the option to submit artwork for consideration in the yearbook cover contest and may also submit poetry for inclusion.
